Smoky Top Project Group believes that Green Construction is the only proper way to build. Definitions of the term “green construction” are varied, however, and just how “green” a particular project is can be debated. To satisfy the conservationist mindsets of the Smoky Top Project Group’s Partners, companies that make up the Smoky Top Project Group are all committed to sustainable building practices, energy and water conservation, and organizing projects to create the least possible amount of negative impact on the environment.

Whether your project includes a few green elements, or enough to qualify for a LEED Certification, the Smoky Top Project Group is prepared to assist. We can harvest the timber on your lot and custom mill lumber, minimizing unnecessary wood waste and also the fuel use and pollution associated with trucking. We can supply Insulated Concrete Forms, an incredibly efficient and green building component. We can help you design an efficient solar energy system to heat your water, or even produce electricity to power your house or sell to the utility company. We can consult with you and your architect as you choose green products and designs. We can recycle building materials, capture rain water, build green roofs, commission HVAC systems, reclaim brownfields, and even set up a bin for you to collect aluminum cans. Often, we can do all this for the same cost as the equivalent conventional construction project. You owe it to yourself, your children, and the environment; invest in the effort to build green. Smoky Top Project Group owes it to you; provide green construction as the norm, not an option to choose, and ensure that our products have a reason to last as long as they do.

LEED Certification: lThe Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality*. Net Zero Energy Houses: Imagine your utility company sending YOU a check for a change! Zero Energy Houses are designed to produce more energy than they consume. Superior insulation, electricity conservation, solar power production, geothermal climate control, and several other technologies are used to create Smoky Top’s ZEHs.

Ask us how it works.

ICF Insulated Concrete FormsICF lprovide structural support and wall systems, like any solid concrete wall. UNLIKE any others, however, they insulate more than twice as well as typical framed construction, they can withstand winds over 200mph, and wall finishes can be applied directly to the block (no additional furring strips or framing required). All this in ONE step… saving valuable time on your project. Not to mention saving up to 70% on your utility bills.

The benefits of ICF are numerous, and they fit perfectly into Smoky Top’s green construction programs. We’ll be happy to tell you more.

Thinking Green: From recycled newspaper insulation to glass tiles made  out of discarded bottles, building products made from landfill-bound materials are not new to the construction industry. Smoky Top Project Group can minimize waste and environmental impact far beyond the traditional products, however. Trees cleared from your lot may one day become the timbers in your living room. Rainfall runoff from your downspouts may irrigate your flower garden. Or more complexly, we may orient your windows so that sunlight reduces the need for electric lighting, and in winter, when the sun’s lower arc allows direct rays under your eaves, it passively warms your tile floor. Now we have to buy fewer lights and a smaller HVAC unit, and we conserve electricity.

The possibilities are endless, and so is our desire to be good stewards of our natural resources.
